What happens next?

Now that chemotherapy is done, what happens next? It’s full steam ahead, 48 hours after finishing chemotherapy I was back into the hospital having brain scans and PET scans to assess what is left in my body and how best to proceed. With my kind of metastasis it’s not completely straight forward; somewhat of a rarity there aren’t many cases to compare it to so there are a few steps that need to go ahead first because conclusions can be made.

I will collect the imaging results next week, and determine what is left in my head. From there decisions will be made as to if I will undergo radiotherapy and if so what type. This will most likely be done first and then surgery will occur. With the tumour having had a great reaction to the chemotherapy, the surgery should be pretty minimal. I’ll have a lumpectomy and the small area of the surrounding tissue removed to eliminate any chance of cancer cells being left behind.

From there the treatment plan is ongoing. With a hormone responsive cancer I will be on hormonal therapy for the next 5 years minimum. It is what is it, it’s a long journey but I’m full onboard, fully ready to fight and ready to live my life as best as I can.
