Where to begin…

2020. For most, the year of pandemic, lockdowns, furlough, unemployment and sheer madness. As a self-employed Personal Trainer not eligible for the scheme, things were getting pretty tough. But then May hit.

If you’ve followed my story on Instagram you’ll know that 2020 has been pretty unbelievable in the house of Fran. If you haven’t, then welcome to BacksBrainsandBoobs; a raw, honest account of the debacles that have gone down and my way of creating awareness that this stuff can happen to anyone at any age which unfortunately worked against me when I was misdiagnosed a year ago, but we will get into that a little bit later on!

You may be wondering why BacksBrainsandBoobs?! Well my friends it is what it says on the tin… Add emergency back surgery after losing the movement in my left leg with discovering you have metastatic breast cancer and undergoing brain surgery to remove a secondary tumour in bedded in your skull, guess what you end up with Backs, Brains and Boobs!

Through my blogs I hope to give you a completely honest account of what it is like to have gone through spinal surgery, getting a cancer diagnosis, undergoing brain surgery and currently living the life of chemotherapy all at the age of 25 and for someone who is used to doing 25,000 steps and training twice a day. But more then this, a “young breast cancer patient” is anyone under the age of 45…I wasn’t listened to and now I am here. So I am passionate about changing the attitude we have on Cancer hitting someone so “young”, and ensuring not only do both males and females check themselves but are also taken just as seriously as someone that is 20 years older.
